Class Updates

Swimming.

Get Set Go swimming lessons begin tomorrow - Tuesday.

Remember to bring; togs, towel, rash shirt, suncream, thongs or crocs, cap and goggles.

Our other swimming day will be Mondays from next week.

Home Readers.

There has been an unfortunate delay in accessing some records from last year regarding the reading level your child finished the year on.  Home readers will commence next week.

Sight Words

I am in the process of testing every child to see how many sight words they recall from a list of 200 words.  This is a long process and should be finished for next week.  Your child will receive a sight word book to be kept in their home folder and returned to school each day.  All the words they already know will be in the book along with the latest list of words to learn. This way you can revise old words and increase speed in recalling them.  The sight words can also be downloaded from this blog in the Sight Words tab.  This will enable you to make flash cards of the words if you would like.  Sight words will be tested each Friday after assembly at about 9.30 am.  It would be wonderful if some parents can come to assist in this process.  Last year some dedicated parents came to assembly (and occasionally out for a coffee first) and then straight in the room to help for about half an hour. I do not need to know if you can make it or not.  Just turn up.  Without this support your child's list may not be heard every week.  Individual testing takes time but is very beneficial to differentiate your child's learning.

Some children are finished the 200 sight words.  That is, they recognise them all, quickly. Later this week they will be tested and put on a spelling program which focusses particularly on their spelling development and needs.  This is a minority of children so do not be concerned about 'keeping up'.  All children learn at different paces to each other.  After all every child did not walk before they were 11 months old and they all have mastered it now.

Homework

Homework sheets are glued into your child's homework scrapbook.  It has an 'H' on the front.  They have two weeks to complete it all.  It does not have to come to school at all until the day they hand it in which is 10 February.

  1. Hello 2 T. May I ask a question? Those homework sheets that are glued to the scrapbook--are they meant to be filled in on both sides? The main side and the underneath of the sheet, the glued side?

  2. The maths and sounds sheets are double sided in your child's Homework Scrapbook (big H on the front). Your child should have glued them like a flap so you can flip them up and do the underside. Please contact me if your child has mistakenly glued it all down and you cannot access both sides and I will provide you with a new sheet.
